Zippity Do Dah!
Business has been quite slow in the legal profession recently. I have not had to be into the office before 10 a.m. in over four months now. Therefore, while I am still in bed catching zzzz’s the rest of The Ham is stuck in morning rush hour traffic. However, today I was up by 6:30 and out the door before 8 a.m. I actually drove right past Hubby as I left the house. I waved and kept going but he turned around and chased me down the street. He climbs out of his car and runs up to my window at a stop sign, “What’s wrong?” he says. He is dumbfounded that I would be out of the house this early, there must be an emergency. Perhaps the house has caught fire?
Today I offered to go to the DMV for Boss who just leased a new company vehicle. He lives in a different county, so I was not familiar with the directions or what kind of hassle this would be. In Jefferson County, the DMV is a BIG hassle. I have to plan to be up and standing outside the doors when they open at 8 a.m. or I will be there in line for hours. The Shelby County office is the opposite direction of morning traffic, so I get there within minutes. I walk in the door and the building is clean, there is a large color TV offering up the news, there are no people standing in line. I am dazed and confused as I stand there looking around at this whole new world I have just entered. A clerk actually asked if she could help me! I explain my awkwardness at this process, “not my car, paying with company check, etc…” The clerk smiled and said she could take care of it, no problem! If I’d had a blue bird on my shoulder, I could not have been more amazed.
I am out of the DMV within minutes. What do I do now? So I stop at a new oil change place, Precision Oil, and they offer me free drinks and updated magazines while I wait. The cost is only $22.00 for an oil change! $22.00? How can this be? I wasn’t told I needed 15 other services or up sold on any products, just a simple easy oil change that took 15 minutes max! WOW! What a day this is! Are all mornings like this? Have I been missing out on kindness and efficiency and dare I say it, joy?
Finally, I stopped at the Sonic and grabbed a breakfast sandwich. This is something a rarely do: eat breakfast or eat fast food, but what the heck, this is a brand new day! The server had a smile on her face and told me to have a Blessed Day.
Man, life is good! I hope you all have one heckuva Zippity Do Dah Day, too!
