Wealth Management

Over the weekend, Hubby’s brother (BIL) and wife (SIL) came to visit. We couples both need time away from our grown children and grandchildren at times. We often find ourselves spending all our hard earned money on them, so we make a pointed effort to just do something anything without them once in awhile. Still, that doesn’t mean we have a whole lot of disposable income to just blow on selfish fun. So this is how we do it:

Friday evening BIL and SIL drove in from the ATL, of course they stay with us, so for them, it’s (1) a weekend getaway from home and (2) it’s a free Bed & Breakfast stay.

For dinner, we drove over to Panera Bread for simple soup and sandwiches (approx. $40 spent) before heading to the IMAX movie theatre where we purchased all the snacks (approx. $47) and then watched James Bond’s “Skyfall” (movie tickets were $52).

On Saturday, after breakfast at home, we drove to the Birmingham Racecourse (greyhound racing) where we spent the next 4 hours betting on dogs and enjoying a light lunch and some cold beers. After spending $20 each on original betting tickets, we all proceeded to capitalize on the lucky dogs and managed to win back not only the original $20 betting stubs, but enough to be reimbursed for not only the lunch, but also the dinner, the movie tickets and snacks from the night before! WINNING!

On Saturday Night we used our gift certificates to the Comedy Club and enjoyed dinner and a show with a few bucks leftover for a decent tip! All-in-all, I spent a few dollars at the grocery store to insure my guests’ comfortable visit and the guests had to fill up their gas tank and drive 2 hours each way. Now that is Wealth Management at its finest!
