There is No Accounting for Reality

Many local counties, cities and state employees are moving to a four-day work week. The idea is that the employees will work 4 – 10 hour days then not have to commute to work on the 5th. The Natural Resources Defense Council states that one less day of driving to work per week could save a driver upwards of $300 per year in gas prices alone. The Council also claims that driving one less day per week could reduce the global warming pollution and save on energy enough that it would equal heating and cooling our homes for up to two months instead.

I don’t know about anyone else, but I am a full-time worker and if I get a full day off from work during the work week I am not parking my car in the garage and hiding under my covers while the next 24 hours quietly passes by so I can save the planet.

Umm…Hello? I am climbing into my racy red vehicle and making that much overdue trek so I can finally re-order those damn checks during hours the bank is actually open! I can finally get that desperate hair appointment before the kids down the block start cringing every time the creepy witch drives by. I am stopping in at Boy’s restaurant to actually take a look at his face, drink a coke and slip him an extra $20 tip (don’t tell Hubby).

On my day off I can call every F’N service person out there and finally be able to wait around to meet them at my house! Sure I may save some gas, but that means the refrigerator repair guy, the carpet-cleaning guy, the bug killer guy; I am calling them all to DRIVE over and spread some fresh chemicals my way!

Oh yes I am!!

Seriously, you can’t tell me that the Coucil and everyone else on this planet didn’t think of this too?

The so-called “savings” is a total crock o’ shit and we all know it!

YES! *AND* I’d take all my dry cleaning in on Thursdays, including those items like tissues! and underwear! that I wouldn’t normally dry clean. And we all know dry cleaning chemicals are made from stuff like dead sunflowers and wilted yoga mats and other such ecological atrocities.

And then you and I would meet formargaritas at noon. And we’d take separate SUVs.

Ooh! Look at all the economy stimulating you’ll do!

Can I get in on this margarita action? If I promise to drive a Hummer there?

All kidding aside, I’d totally work four 10s to get a three-day weekend. We expect that if they ever implement such a thing here, they’ll just cut our work week (and pay) by eight hours, then tell us to stay home and suck it up.

I almost PEED I laughed so hard. You should be here in Cali with all the “green” nutballs. I was in the grocery store and this woman tells me I should ask for paper bags instead of plastic. I asked her if she ever picked up wet dogshit with a paper bag. THEN she gets in a Porsche SUV with a license plate that said VEGAN. Hello! Mixed messages anyone?
