It is Sesame Street’s 40th anniversary! I love Sesame Street! My favorite character was Oscar the Grouch. I had a stuffed one for many years until of course, I left him at the grocery store or some fake story my Mother told me. I think it just got so disgusting that she threw it in the trash. Which is poetic because Oscar lived in a garbage can. He truly is in a better place.

When I was a kid, Mr. Snuffleupagus was Big Bird’s imaginary friend. Somewhere along the line he became “real”. And just recently I heard on a commercial, for a fancy hands-free faucet, the song that The Count used to sing all the time about his hands.

I guess the creation of Elmo gave Sesame Street a second lease on television life. Which is great since so many shows have been lost along the way. Remember Captain Kangaroo with Mr. Green Jeans? Remember the Green Giant or Romper Room? How about H R Puffinstuff?

Happy Anniversary Sesame Street!

Did you check out Google at all last week? They kept using Sesame Street characters in the word Google. Big Bird’s legs were the “l” one day… Cookie’s eyes were the “oo” on another… but my favorite was when they had the Count, and all of the letters in Google were made out of numbers!
