I get terrible voicemail messages every day. Not death
threats, what I mean is the actual message that people leave on voice mail, especially for a legal office. Most people who call I have never spoken to before. I am not their friend and I do not know them on a personal one-on-one level. So you
cannot call and just say, “This is Sherry. You need to call me back”.
You also cannot forget to leave your name, your phone number or the actual person you are trying to leave the message for! I am not a mind reader. If you cannot leave a proper message, your poor message will be erased and forever forgotten until the next time you slur into the phone at 3 a.m. asking your lawyer to reschedule your court hearing date because 9 a.m. comes way too early.
Today, I had to leave a message for tech support to return my call. I always state my name, my company’s name and my phone number first. Then I leave a brief explanation of why I have called. Then I repeat my name, company’s name and number. Then wrap it up with a simple Thank you.
The tech called back and asked for Robin. Did I studder?
