My Prophet

February 29th, 2008 · 2 Comments

Yesterday, I had the day off from work. I was immersed in my bathroom reno, so I tell Hubby to go ahead use my car for the day. (He has an old pick up, so I thought he’d like to enjoy the smoother ride of a newer car for a change) Anyway, for some reason I said to him, “Have a good day and be nice to my car”.¬† Famous last words.
That night I am happily watching my beloved Brian Williams and he has a report on the difference between foreign brand cars and American brand cars and their lasting power. He says Toyota and Honda have a length of 7-8 years before things start to go wrong. But that the American ones only last 3-4 years before noticeable squeaks, creaks and electronic stuff starts to fall apart. Is Brian a Prophet?
Soon Hubby comes home and sheepishly says, “Umm… I broke your car”.
First thing before work, we take the car over to the dealership and find out that the shifting assembly needs to be replaced. The car would not shift all the way into Park, so therefore the steering wheel would not lock, therefore the key would not release from the ignition. Good thing I have more than one set of keys, because we had to lock the car up with the emergency brake on with the key in it all night.
BTW, the car is a 2005 Chevy Cobalt. Other than tires and oil changes, after 48,000 miles, the car has been fab. We are coming up on year 3 of ownership. How very interesting, eh????
I bow to you my Prophet.

Kim! I saw the link to your site on Val’s page. I think we met back in the days of Val’s Train obsession and frequent visits to Birmingham.
It’s nice to read entries from a fellow Birminghammer– I’m in Hoover!
