March 2, 3, 4…

For about 10 of my childhood years, I was kept very busy with activities and sports. One of those activities, I was a baton twirler in a competitive baton and drum corp. called The Highlanders. Yes folks, I wore a tartan plaid skirt with matching hat and those adorable white boots with taps on the bottoms! Like a cat with a collar bell, you always knew when I was coming! (The worst part was the red lipstick, I still hate it to this very day.) We marched and performed in every local small-town parade from The Apple Butter Fair to The Watermelon Festival! I have met more than my fair share of Strawberry Queens and Peach Princesses always fashionably perched on the back of a convertible Corvette or vintage Thunderbird. Lucky bitches. The rest of us had to march in sweltering summer heat for the last 2 or 3 miles…in plaid polyester, don’t forget.

I LOVE every stinking homespun, homemade, hometown craft, fruit and annual festival ever dreamed up! I am the one who will purchase that jar of fresh cranberry preserves (even if I will never eat it myself). I am the one with the giant cup of over priced lemonade and mustard all over my face from stuffing that italian sausage with peppers and onions down my gullet. I am the one who will drag my friends, children and grandchildren along and force them to enjoy the experience too (damnit).

I promise, none of us will have to wear taps on our shoes…well, I might, but that’s just me.
