My Freshman year of High School was MTV! In 1981 it really was all music all the time! And the VJ’s were the coolest people ever. Martha, Allan Hunter, Nina Blackwood and Downtown Julie Brown. My Senior year was all about Def Leppard. I used to tell my oldest child that her daddy was Joe Elliott. I have been to numerous dance clubs and won dance contests!
Yes, I do know how to Slam Dance.
I owned Jordache Jeans that made my hips bleed. I had a perm and parachute pants. My fingernails were True Blue Red and my eyeliner was deepest black.
I have been to so many hair band concerts that I couldn’t possibly remember them all. I am constantly kicking myself thinking that if I had just saved all of those ticket stubs in a box somewhere I could relive the Glory Days any day of the week. I could prove to my kids that I have seen Van Halen with David Lee Roth. I have seen Black Sabbath with Ozzy Osborne. I did see Def Leppard with Steve Clark and Rick Allen had both arms.
I love all 80’s music. Besides all of the big names that most people associate like Metallica and GNR, REO Speedwagon, Quiet Riot, Poison and Skid Row, I have been to concerts of bands by the name of: Ratt, Firehouse, Winger, Triumph, Molly Hatchett, Warrant, Dokken, Slayer, Slaughter and Dio. I can honestly say that myself and my girlfriends were smashed up against a security fence/stage barrier at some of the greatest concerts ever!
I think the only 80’s icon that I can say I regret not seeing in their heyday was Pat Benatar.
Anyway, what brought this subject to the forefront this week is that Def Leppard is coming to town in August. Yes, I have seen them at least half-a-dozen times, but that was ages ago and I think I may still want to see them again. I told Boy about the concert and he actually laughed. He asked if Dokken was the opening band.
THAT WOULD BE COOL AS SHIT!
