How Does Your Garden Grow?

March 25th, 2011 · No Comments

Hamlet is a hungry, hungry hippo. Well, not really. He is, however, the Prince of Pigs in my house.  He is totally treated like the royalty that he is.

Hamlet loves his veggies. Lettuce is his favorite, but he is quite fond of cucumbers, carrots and peppers too. Recently, I was at the grocery store stocking up on all things Hamlet when I paid $2.49 for a single head of lettuce. I was outraged! At the rate this little piggy goes through veggies, I will literally be eaten out of house and home at those prices! So I decided to build our own Garden of Hamlet.

Hubby dug out and tilled a small, sunny section of the side yard. We planted lettuce, carrots, cucumbers, onions, chives and peppers. I even heard (probably an old wives tale) that garden eating critters do not care for the smell of Marigolds, so I planted some of those around the edges as well.

Now, hopefully within a few weeks, I can plop that Piggie down in the center of his garden and let him have at it! Piggie Heaven! (Don’t worry, there are no apples).
