F’ing A! I’m from Ohio

December 6th, 2013 · No Comments

The following is an excerpt from an article:

There’s just something about those calls to customer service that gets our blood up, isn’t there. If you’re making that frustrating phone call, something is already wrong. The cable is out. The bill or bank statement is incorrect. The computer doesn’t work.

So one’s mood is not good to begin with. Then add the interminable hold time, that god-awful music they play and the obtuse, sometimes English-challenged “customer satisfaction” rep. It’s a recipe for some R-rated, irate conversation from the customer end of the line.

Now an organization has taken the time to listen to a sampling of thousands of those tirade-laced tapes and rate all 50 states according to the most profane and the most polite.

Turns out callers in Ohio are most likely to go off and get down and dirty. They swore in one out of about every 150 phone conversations, according to data from more than 600,000 calls. Ohio was followed, respectively, by Maryland, New Jersey, Louisiana, and Illinois, according to an article based on the study in The Atlantic.

And the most polite, peppering their calls with “please” and “thank you” – just like your mother told you? The South rises again in this order: South Carolina, North Carolina, Maryland, Louisiana, and Georgia.
