Been having issues with getting a decent night’s sleep at the new apartment, thanks to the 800 pound gorillas that frolic over my head daily…

Hubby felt sorry for me and snuck us away on a little getaway. We travelled to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, home of the University of Alabama. Yes, we both had been to this college town before; once we attended an actual game and once we watched our eldest daughter earn her letter in swimming at the University’s aquatic center, but we never had the time to just adventure and check out the strip.

It was an incredibly hot weekend! But we tooled around the University; taking pictures with bronze statues of Nick Saban, Gene Stahlings and of course, Bear Bryant! We had a beer at The Houndstooth and loaded up on BAMA beer coozies from the Bama Store. We met some super friendly college students, perhaps too super friendly. What is with all of this hugging all the time? Two complete strangers gave me more hugs during one random conversation than I think my parents ever gave me in 40(+) years of life! Someone named Adrian sent a drink to our table…Who’s Adrian?

We stayed at the Yellowhammer Inn where their motto is “The Art of Relaxation”.  This hotel was an awkward combination of Japanese architecture and hillbilly chic. I’m not kidding! Pagodas with dead animals on the walls, I’m not sure that qualifies for Feng Shui. The yacht club next door was even more decoratively challenged; again with the Japanese architecture of the building this time the inside was filled with antique nautical items like anchors, brass telescopes and mermaids.

Even if the décor was a bit to be desired and the residents were way friendly, it was quiet and relaxing and we both got a much needed good night’s sleep.

Arigato Dear Hubby!
