Day 5 (on shore)

Wednesday at 7 a.m. we arrived in Georgetown, Grand Cayman. Apparently these 3 islands (aka Las Tortugas) are protected coral reefs and the boats do not have docks built. We woke up to a virtual sea of cruise liners surrounding this little island. We then have to board a ferry boat to get to the island. There were dozens of them littering the port of call.

Grand Cayman is a British Commonwealth. The Governor is appointed by the Queen every four years. Our taxi guide explained that the Governor is paid $35,000 per month to “sit on this beautiful island and do nothing for 4 years”. (Someone has a bone to pick, eh?) We decided that would be the perfect career move for Hubby. All we have to do is invite Prince Harry back to Vegas, secure a safe (no camera) zone for him and his pals to play and no doubt, Prince Harry will ask Hubby how he could possibly repay him for such wonderful hospitality! Harry: Just put a bug in Grand Ma-Ma’s ear that Hubby would like to be appointed Governor of Grand Cayman. No biggie!

The water was beautiful, the fish colorful and the snorkeling…well… a little painful. Once again, salt water is just disgusting in your face, hair, mouth and coral reefs shred skin like a cheese grater. It did cloud over and started to sprinkle, but refuge was just steps away at the Tiki bar where we drank rum punch like it was Kool-Aid. Hey, if you can’t day drink during vacation, when can you? Don’t judge.

Of all the stops Grand Cayman was the most relaxing. The island is modern and clean and bustling with tons of activities, but also sitting on a lounge chair, under an umbrella, on a beautiful beach is all you really need to do. This is a job I can be very good at. Oh Harry!!
