I was just informed of a Global Warming initiative that was scheduled for March 29, 2008 between 8 and 9 p.m. entitled Earth Hour. Apparently, we were all supposed to “go dark” for one hour to save the planet. Google got on board by changing their home site background from its usual white to black symbolizing going dark. However, the website still operated as normal. I would just like to say that although I did not know of this initiative, I did go dark for the occasion. You see, we had a bit of a storm blow through and the transformer in front of my house and connecting 3 other homes on the block blew, therefore 4 homes went dark between the hours of 7 and 10 p.m. on March 29. As Hubby and I blankly stared at each other through flickering candle light we decided that before electricity, people lived really boring lives, but then again, they didn’t have all of this really great electronic stuff just standing useless in their living rooms. What a crying shame!
Hubby and I played a rousing game of Scrabble by candle light (he always wins) and quickly downed several tasty drinks in order to use up the melting ice in the freezer. Waste not want not I always say! By the time the electric guys showed up, we were giving them much applause and offering tepid beer.
This morning, Hubby and I slept in until 11 a.m. which is SOOOOO not us. We decided that either the mind numbing game of Scrabble just wore us out completely or the candle smoke worked more like carbon monoxide and put us into a deep slumber.
Either way, I feel I did my part for the planet. Al Gore (the Goracle) loves me!
