Baby, I’m Amazed
If you knew Hubby’s history, you would know that he is quite a fighter. Every day, he amazes me just a little bit more. And if you knew my history, you would know that I believe all men are pigs, so amazing me is pretty spectacular.
I know I have spoken of this before, Hubby owns his own lawn care business. But this business has been through more trials and tribulations in the past three years then any one man should have to shoulder.
Three summers ago, one of the partners had to be let go (many issues including lying, cheating, etc…) but since he was a partner, you can’t just fire him you have to buy him out. Ex-partner took 40% of the customers to have his own business. 40% of customers is 40% of production is 40% of revenue. OUCH!
Man we went into a tail spin! At the exact same time, daughter has nice wedding and so house gets second mortgage. Fall was a thin time, but we made it through to the new season. Phew!
Unfortunately, the following year we incur the worst drought in 30 years. Water becomes an expensive and limited commodity. The state is told to ration and a sur charge is added to anyone using more than their allotment. People are not allowed to water their lawns, in order to fill the company trucks we are adding up sur charges left and right. Our personal water bill averages $200 per month. Needless to say, it was a very thin fall season again, but we held on till the new season.
BANG! Gas prices go through the roof! It is costing Hubby over $500 per week to keep his trucks moving. People’s disposable income is shrinking. Lawn care is a luxury to most, not a necessity. It’s only May and the economy does not look to improve much within the next few months. It’s going to be another thin fall around here, but I have faith.
Hubby is pretty amazing. He must have rabbits tucked in unexpected places!
