A Little Magic Power

Music has always meant a lot to me. I love words and lyrics and the story that they tell. I am always in awe of a singer/songwriter who makes me “feel” the words and live the story as they intended. Of course some of the greatest songwriters (in my opinion) would include Billy Joel, James Taylor, Bruce Springsteen and Butch Walker. This is a just few, my list can be quite long, we’d have to categorize by genre, decade and band versus solo artist. (This could get tediously intricate, so I will stop now.)

Recently, I heard a new song on a new radio station here in The Ham, Live 100.5. The band is The Gaslight Anthem and the song is The 59th Sound. I heard this song the other day for the first time and really listened to the lyrics. The (simplified) premise is that if you were to die, what would be the song in your head? So I asked Hubby. He said if he could chose the last song to hear, the one that would stay in his head for all of eternity, for him it would have to be, Unchained Melody.  Then he asked me the same question and of course I repeated the same thing I said above about the list. He said just pick one. So it would have to be the greatest song ever written, Jungleland by Bruce Springsteen.

Out side the streets on fire

In a real death waltz

Between what’s flesh and what’s fantasy

And the poets down here don’t write nothing at all

They just stand back and let it all be

And in the quick of the night

They reach for their moment

And try to make an honest stand

But they wind up wounded

Not even dead

Tonight in Jungleland!

What would be your eternal song?

My brain is too tired to think about it right now, but you and Shane seriously need to chat sometime. He’s the biggest Springsteen fan I know.

I’ll think on this, but it’ll be hard.
