A Celebration of Life

March 9th, 2009 · No Comments

Cancer is true evil. It takes friends, family, loved ones. Leaves you empty, lonely and lost. Those evil Pacman-like cells that eat at its host from the inside out. Worse than a flesh eating disease, more like a life stealing disease. A powerful vacuum that sucks from within.

Drawn.

Frail.

Vacant.

Gaunt.

Skeletal.

Cremated and potted. Revealed for the “Celebration of Life” ceremony. Friends and family gather. Reminisce.

Apartment is forfeited, emptied and cleaned for a new tenant.  Leased vehicle returned to dealership for someone else to drive. Furniture and household items scattered to the nephews, pets given to good homes, clothing donated to the Salvation Army and jewelry and bank accounts divided per the Last Will and Testament.

In less time than it takes to order a replacement driver’s license, an entire life, sixty-plus years, subsumed by its environment.

Loyal friend.

Unwavering supporter.

Compassionate.

Generous.

Missed.
